fuck it i’m watching the matrix
how did they trace the call?
THEY CUT THE HARDLINE!!!
trinity is me y’all
i love how well she captures being intensely terrified and yet pushing through it to be the total badass that she is at the same time
ahhh the dude in the truck
nobody likes the dude in the truck
ahaha fucking minidiscs fuck yeah
obligatory dragula mention
trinity’s relationship to neo is the girl you meet who’s 6 months to a year ahead of you who tells you all the stuff you need to know about hrt and makeup and clothes and queer culture and what books to read and what to watch out for
makes me feel better that neo couldn’t hack it in tech either
ouch, neo getting deadnamed feels uncomfy
of course it was on a fucking package delivery
“use the scaffold to get to the roof”
“just call planned parenthood”
god the beginning of the interrogation with agent smith is the kind of thing i would have nightmares about when i was in the closet
“We’ve had our eye on you for some time... It seems that you’ve been living two lives. In one you’re a program writer for a respectable software company. The other life is lived in computers, where you pretend to be a girl on the internet and are guilty of virtually every gender crime we have a law for.”
and “one of these lives has a future, the other does not” is what kept me there
i’m really glad i decided to rewatch, i stayed away cause all the popular negativity around the sequels tainted my memories of it but i forgot how many ways in which this is a genuinely good movie and with all the extra layers of nuance it just feels really comfortingly familiar
just another self reminder to not let irony ruin good things for me
pho and oj break
it’s weird to think that i was 11 when this movie came out
i wish i’d had even one queer person in my life then. there was so much i didn’t know.
idk if it would have helped me though. the world was pretty fucked up in 1999
the worst thing about 1999 was that all the same terrifying shit was happening then, but nobody had any good way to find out about it or talk about it so it just went on except for the conspiracy theorists who would gather in underground bookstores or bbses or whatever and everyone wrote them off (which like, the ones i was exposed to were mostly libertarians and wrong about half the shit they said anyways so valid probably)
i’m sure there were some parts of the country where people were better informed but there was no effective way for that to spread to the middle of texas back then
and like, good luck finding out about queer and trans stuff in that context. gay was what your group of friends called each other as insults or the guys holding hands downtown that your parents made disapproving noises about and then you’d get to hear about how gross it was later
@nova I blasted through the entire trilogy last weekend and it kept me on a bunch of household tasks.
@raye i haven’t watched it in like 15 years so i feel like i am really gonna enjoy this
@nova saw it in the Netflix top suggestions tonight, strongly considered it, made myself watch something new instead
@ItsTheManOnTheMoon i am just really excited to rewatch it from a trans perspective with a much broader context now
@nova yeah I’m due to watch it start to finish (vs. 15 minute chunks here and there when it was on TNT 24/7 like 15 years ago)
@nova watch the sequels too! I really think theyre a lot cleverer than people caught
I adore the Matrix.
@nova ... geez, that sounds about right.
i mean it's technically right but it took me a *while* to figure out which life had the future 😅
@vyr haha yuuuup
@nova 1999 was when i was surviving depositions in the first trans washroom case
(and this sucking is also kept in the context of having grown up in texas and surviving clinical conversion therapy in ’86, so yeah)
@nova i know what you mean.
@nova You were the one who showed us that movie for the first time. I wish we'd known you were queer, we could have worked through our shit together.
@TheRealKylee i didn’t know i was queer then! i didn’t even know what that was! and i mean... i did like girls so... it was just a very confusing time
@nova I really wanna watch it again soon - I haven’t since I came out
@nova god the deadnaming is SO accurate in retrospect it hurts
@nova and the over-enunciating it by agents (and REALLY drilling the "misssster" part) is so like wow. Not even subtext for deadnaming?? It's like a dagger every time
@SuperCee It struck me with the package delivery cause you hear his first name and I didn’t remember that even being in the movie
@nova oh good point!!
@nova I love your Matrix posting omg
Also this is a big mood lol
@nova it's a bop
@nova This is one of my favorite movies, has been since I saw it in the theater when I was 21...way before I knew I was actually a guy.
A couple of months ago, I watched it for the first time since starting transition, and holy hellfire.
How I could have been so close to knowing back then, yet still in such oblivious denial.
@nova remember this? it was 3 centuries ago.
@hope i feel old now
@nova Always a good decision!
hello! this is nova’s single-user server! all accounts on here are alts of mine.
